こんな表現をしたい時、ForとSinceのどちらを使うのが正しいのでしょうか?

Common mistakes with ‘for’ and ‘since’
X I have studied English since 2 years.
○ I have studied English for 2 years.
X I haven’t seen John since a long time.
○ I haven’t seen John for a long time.
Explanation
Students sometimes get confused about when to use ‘for’ and when to use ‘since’.
‘For’ is used with a period of time.
For example – For half an hour (half and hour is a period of time).
‘Since’ is used with a point in time.
For example – Since 2001. (2001 is a point in time)
Other examples are –
for 2 years, for a couple of weeks, for 3 months, for ages.
since 10 o’clock, since July, since I was 18 years old, since Monday
